COMO Maalifushi Launches Freediving with Maldives’ Pioneer Fahd Faiz

COMO Maalifushi has announced the launch of its freediving programme, in collaboration with Fahd Faiz, the first Maldivian freediving instructor and a leading figure in the country’s marine conservation efforts. The initiative forms part of COMO Maalifushi’s ongoing mission to offer transformative guest experiences while advancing sustainability, education, and professional growth within its team.
The residency by Fahd Faiz, taking place from July 27 to August 10, 2025, has officially launched freediving training at COMO Maalifushi, focusing on equipping the resort’s marine team with advanced skills in breath-hold diving, safety, and underwater awareness. These essential freediving techniques will soon be incorporated into the resort’s PADI programme, offering guests the opportunity to explore the ocean in a more mindful, unencumbered way.
Fahd Faiz is the founder of Freedive Maldives, the first locally owned freediving centre in the country, established in 2015. A world record holder in static apnea, he has trained over 1,000 students and currently serves as the President of the Maldives Freediving Association. He is also the only PADI Instructor Trainer in the country, and has been instrumental in developing the freediving landscape both locally and internationally.

“Having Fahd with us at COMO Maalifushi has been an inspiring experience for the team,” says Peter Nilsson, Managing Director of COMO Maldives.
“His passion for the ocean, paired with his extraordinary skill and dedication to education, aligns perfectly with our brand ethos of holistic wellness, sustainability, and a meaningful connection to place. This new freediving initiative enhances not only our team’s capabilities but also our guest offering, giving travellers the chance to experience the marine world in a more profound and peaceful way. We are honoured to support Fahd’s mission and proud to launch freediving at COMO Maalifushi.”
During his residency, Fahd is conducting immersive training sessions with COMO Maalifushi’s marine team, focusing on breath control, rescue techniques, equalisation, and mental conditioning – skills that are not only vital to freediving but also valuable in overall ocean safety and guest interaction.
This new freediving offering at COMO Maalifushi is set to become an Iconic marine experience, offering guests the chance to discover the depths of the Indian Ocean on a single breath, surrounded by coral gardens, reef fish, and the serenity of silence.
