Madi Hiyaa Wins Prix Versailles Award for World’s Most Beautiful Restaurants 2024

Madi Hiyaa at Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru has been honoured with the prestigious Prix Versailles Award, recognising it as one of the World’s Most Beautiful Restaurants for 2024. This esteemed accolade celebrates restaurants that excel in both architectural design and culinary experience, highlighting Madi Hiyaa among 16 exceptional venues worldwide.

The Prix Versailles, renowned for its focus on architecture and design across various sectors, underscores how the physical environment enhances the dining experience. Jérôme Gouadain, Secretary General of the Prix Versailles, praised the selected restaurants for their significant contributions to the field.

Inspired by the Dhivehi language, where “Madi” symbolises “ray” and “Hiyaa” signifies “shelter,” Madi Hiyaa pays homage to the graceful rays that migrate across the Indian Ocean. Its design, crafted by Nomadic Resorts, features a striking bamboo ribcage structure reminiscent of the Pink Whiprays (Pateobatis fai) found in the nearby lagoon. This innovative use of bamboo reflects Madi Hiyaa’s commitment to sustainability, showcasing bamboo as a fast-growing renewable resource and effective carbon sink.

Located at Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru, Madi Hiyaa offers a serene dining experience overwater, complete with a sea saltwater infinity pool and overwater catamaran nets providing panoramic sunset views. The interior combines modern elegance with traditional Maldivian elements, featuring a bar and service blocks clad in black bamboo against pale bamboo columns and timber decking.

Guests at Madi Hiyaa indulge in fine Japanese cuisine, including expertly crafted Yakitori dishes, in a setting that harmonises nature, culture, and architectural ingenuity. This blend creates a dining experience that is not only unforgettable but also deeply connected to its surroundings.
